Arizona Laws & Details

Formal Education Requirements:  Graduation from or completion of training in a board-approved program of acupuncture with a minimum of 1,850 hours that includes at least 800 hours of clinical training.

Undergraduate Requirements:  None.

Other Eligibility Requirements:  Completion of a clean needle technique course approved by the board.

Written Exam:  The NCCAOM exam or another examination recognized by the board.

Practical Exam:  None specified.

Reciprocity/Endorsement:  If an appicant is licensed by another state with substantially similar standards, and has not had certification or licensure revoked.

Graduation from or completed training in a board approved program of acupuncture with a minimum of 1850 hours that includes at least 800 hour of clinical training.

Certification in acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) is required.

Medical doctors and osteopaths and naturopaths may practice acupuncture in Arizona without any specific training. 

Chiropractors may practice if they pass the board examination in acupuncture and have 100 hours of study.

NOTE: Look for a physician with formal training in the practice of acupuncture. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine is an art and a science that takes years to master. While any licensed physician can stick needles into you, for a positive experience and results, find an acupuncturist with experience treating a similar condition (with acupuncture) to what you have.
