Practitioner Title

Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.)

Requirements

Formal Education Requirements:  Graduation from a full-time acupuncture program at a university, college or school of acupuncture which includes at least 1,725 hours of entry-level acupuncture education consisting of a minimum of 1,000 didactic and 500 clinical hours, and is accredited or a candidate for accreditation by ACAOM or is accredited by another accrediting body that is recognized as such by the U.S. Department of Education.

Undergraduate Requirements:  None

Other Eligibility Requirements:  Completion of a clean needle technique course approved by the NCCAOM.

Written ExamNCCAOM written exam in acupuncture.

Pracitcal ExamNCCAOM PEPLS.

Reciprocity/Endorsement:  None.

Practice by Others

Medical doctors, osteopaths and chiropractors may practice acupuncture in Nebraska without additional training.

Acupuncture is not within the scope of practice of a podiatrist or a physician assistant.

NOTE:  Look for a physician with formal training in the practice of acupuncture.  Acupuncture and Oriental medicine is an art and a science that takes years to master.  While any licensed physician can stick needles into you, for a positive experience and results, find an acupuncturist with experience treating a similar condition (with acupuncture) to what you have
