Alabama Laws & Details

Practitioner Title

Acupuncturists are not licensed in Alabama.

Requirements

An acupuncturist may not practice under M.D., D.O., or chiropractor supervision.

Practice by Others

Only a medical doctor, osteopath, or chiropractor may practice acupuncture in Alabama.  There is no specific training required for a medical or osteopathic doctor to practice acupuncture.  The Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama Rule 545-X-4-05 mandates that licensed physicians who practice acupuncture must comply with FDA requirements.

There is no provision for the practice of acupuncture by chemical dependency specialists.

Chiropractors must be certified with 100 hours of training.

NOTE: Look for a physician with formal training in the practice of acupuncture. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine is an art and a science that takes years to master. While any licensed physician can stick needles into you, for a positive experience and results, find an acupuncturist with experience treating a similar condition (with acupuncture) to what you have.

Governmental Body

There is no practice act for acupuncturists in this state.
