Oregon Laws & Details

Practitioner Title

Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.)

Requirements

Graduation from an acupuncture program that has been granted accreditation or candidacy status by the ACAOM, or from a program evaulated to be equivalent by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization, as approved by the board, and NCCAOM certification in acupuncture (does not need to be current.)

Practice by Others

Medical doctors and ostepaths may practice acupuncture without specific training.

Acupuncture is not within the scope of practice of podiatrists, physician assistants and chiropractors.

A physician may not supervise an acupuncturist unless the physician is also a licensed acupuncturist.

NOTE: Look for a physician with formal training in the practice of acupuncture. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine is an art and a science that takes years to master. While any licensed physician can stick needles into you, for a positive experience and results, find an acupuncturist with experience treating a similar condition (with acupuncture) to what you have.
