About Neil Gumenick
Professor Gumenick is one of the foremost practitioners and teachers of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture in the world. He has over 32 years of private practice experience and holds three degrees and an Advanced Teaching Certification from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in England. Neil was a founding member and ten-year participant in the Master Apprentice Program(tm) led by Professor J.R. Worsley.
Neil is Founder and Director of The Institute of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture Inc., which trains licensed acupuncturists, physicians, and students of Oriental medicine in this profound body/mind/spirit system of medicine. He has been a Professor at Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, SAMRA University, and has taught at numerous colleges and symposia internationally. He is co-author of The Art of Practice Management for Acupuncture Healthcare Practices, a frequent contributor to the California Journal of Oriental Medicine, and a distinguished columnist for Acupuncture Today.
Classical Five-Element Acupuncture is set apart from other types of acupuncture by its fundamental premise of diagnosing and treating patient’s Causative Factor: his or her root imbalance underlying all symptoms. Every patient is treated, not as a labeled disease, but as a unique individual with unique physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs. No two patients are ever treated the same. This system is unique in its ability to treat not only the body, but the emotions, mind and spirit directly. Most illnesses of the physical body have a very direct relationship to the non-physical levels. These must all be taken into account in order to truly cure disease.
Professor Gumenick spends approximately two hours in the initial examination and 45 minutes to one hour on each subsequent visit with every patient individually. Recommendations as to lifestyle, diet, exercise, etc. are tailored to each person as needed and are adjusted during the course of treatment.
Professor Gumenick specializes in the patient before him, whatever the symptoms happen to be. He asserts, "Once we determine the underlying cause and treat it correctly, there is absolutely no disease or pain of the body, mind, or spirit that cannot be healed, provided the disease has not progressed beyond the reach of Nature to reverse."
