About Karen Stringer
Karen M Stringer, L.Ac., Dipl.OM, FABORM, is an Illinois state-licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist, nationally board certified in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Karen holds a master’s degree in Oriental medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin and graduated with a bachelor’s of arts degree from California State University, Northridge. Karen focuses on addressing each patient’s individual needs through acupuncture, herbs, bodywork, and nutrition. Karen treats a variety of disorders with an emphasis in pain management, women's health, and emotional disharmony.
Karen has over 10 years experince in alternative medicine, starting her holistic healthcare as a licensed massage therapist in Los Angeles. She managed her own massage business, Heart In Hands, specializing in Swedish, deep tissue and sports massage techniques. In 2002, Karen trained with the Doulas of North America, assisting many women with the birth of their child. While at the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, she interned at the integrated medical facility of Seton-Williamson County Hospital as well as a community outreach program in North Austin. She also holds certification in occupational Acupuncture, assisting those with job-related and chronic injuries. She is also a distinguished Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (FABROM).
Karen is a member of the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM), Illinois Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ILAAOM), American Pregnancy Association, and American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia(AOBTA). She is a certified practitioner of Tui Na (Chinese massage) and certified herbalist (NCCAOM). Mrs. Stringer strongly believes in an integration of Eastern and Western medicines to achieve balance. When Karen is not assisting others in achieving harmony of body, mind, and spirit, she enjoys training for half-marathons and spending time with her husband and menagerie of felines.
