Location
Lung 1 (LU 1) is lateral and superior to the sternum at the lateral side of the first intercostal space, 6 cun lateral to the Ren Channel. One cun below LU 2.
Indications
This point is useful for all Lung issues, especially of the excess Type - cough, wheezing, asthma and fullness in the chest as well as local problems such as pain in the chest, shoulder and back.
It is often used in treatments for LU disharmonies involving Phlegm/Heat excess arising from the middle warmer - vomiting, difficult ingestion.
Lung 1 (LU 1) is the front Mu Point for the Lungs. Mu points are the points on the chest and abdomen where qi of the respective zangfu organs is infused. They are located on the chest and abdomen in close proximity to their respectively related zangfu organs.
LU 1 connects with the back shu point, UB 13 and is also the meeting point on the Lung Channel with the Spleen Channel.
Traditional Action
Lung 1 (LU 1) regulates Lung Qi and stops cough, stimulates the Lung Qi to descend, disperses fullness in the chest and stops pain.
Contraindications
This point should be needled .5-.8 inch towards the lateral aspect of the chest. Never puncture deeply towards the sternum as the lung could be punctured.
