About Lindsay Long

Lindsay Long L.Ac.

Lindsay Long, L.Ac., C.SMA®, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports and Health Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. There she conducted research on the effects of exercise versus pharmaceutical drugs on clinical depression and extensively studied athletic training with the head trainer for the University of Missouri Tigers football team. She graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University with a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine. Through this program she had the opportunity to provide acupuncture at The Courage Center, The Salvation Army Harbor Lights, Perspectives Family Care Center, and The Aliveness Project. This gave her a wide variety of experience working with patients suffering from brain and spinal cord injuries, various addictions, women’s health issues, and other chronic conditions. During her training at Northwestern she also learned to integrate the modalities of cupping, moxibustion (the burning of a medicinal herb), tui na (Chinese Energy Massage), gua sha (dermal friction therapy), Chinese Food Therapy, and Constitutional Facial Acupuncture Renewal into her practice. Lindsay is also a practitioner of Chinese Herbology and prescribes herbal formulas that can treat conditions such as acne, infertility, urinary tract infections, menstrual irregularities, eczema, insomnia, and much more.

Lindsay completed a year long certification process in Sports Medicine Acupuncture® at the New England School of Acupuncture in Boston, Massachusetts in 2010. She is currently one of only two acupuncturists in the state of Colorado as well as one of only two acupuncturists in the state of Minnesota certified to provide this advanced training in the treatment of sports injuries using motor point needling techniques, soft tissue mobilization, and rehabilitative exercises. In 2012 and 2013 Lindsay was honored to assist Matt Callison as a teaching assistant to the Sports Medicine Acupuncture® program in Boston.

Lindsay completed a six month Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship with Whitfield Reaves in 2011, one of the innovators in the field of sports acupuncture and performance enhancement, in Boulder, Colorado. In June 2013 Lindsay was honored to take over Whitfield’s practice in Boulder, Colorado while he is on a sabbatical in Maui, Hawaii. Lindsay collaborates closely with Whitfield and provides sports acupuncture to a variety of athletes in Colorado including Iron Man athletes, cyclists, marathoners, gymnasts, arena football players, as well as weekend warriors. Lindsay currently practices primarily in Boulder, Colorado, but returns to Minnesota once a month to provide acupuncture at her office in Maple Grove.

Lindsay specializes in sports acupuncture and the treatment of musculoskeletal and orthopedic injuries such as spinal disc injuries, knee, neck, and hip pain, shoulder injuries, shin splits, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and muscle tension headaches. Lindsay has worked with professional athletes from all over the country by providing sports acupuncture to NFL players at the Larry Fitzgerald Receiver camp the past four years and well as in the office in Maple Grove. Through the accumulation of countless hours of continuing education and training with some of the experts in the field of sports acupuncture Lindsay provides a comprehensive and intelligent approach to treating both professional athletes as well as weekend warriors using sports and performance enhancing acupuncture techniques, postural assessment, soft tissue mobilization, and rehabilitative exercises to get them back in the game pain free.

Lindsay Long works in her Minnesota office approximately 5 days a month and practices mainly in Boulder, Colorado.

Maria Rafdal, L.Ac.

Maria is licensed to practice acupuncture in the state of Minnesota and is a certified diplomate with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).  She earned her Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado where the professional degree program consists of 3092.5 hours in the five branches of oriental medicine: acupuncture, herbal medicine, physical therapy, nutrition and exercise/breathing therapy.  The degree includes graduate level studies in Oriental medicine and Western science.

Following in her Grandfather’s footsteps, a pediatric physician, Maria became interested in medicine at a young age.  She decided on a career in Oriental Medicine after experiencing and improvement in her own health through a combination of  treatments from both Oriental and Western medicine.

Specializing in treating pain, women’s health, and pediatrics Maria has focused training in ob/gyn, fertility and women’s health.  Maria’s skills were enhanced while she trained under renowned midwife and acupuncturist, Valerie Hobbs.

Maria practices a large range of acupuncture techniques including Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Chinese Herbal Medicine, trigger point therapy, and auricular (ear acupuncture).  Her techniques also include adjunct therapies such as cupping, bodywork techniques: shiatsu and tuina, gwasha, moxibustion and Chinese Nutrition.  With this multitude of techniques and modalities, Maria is able to create an effective, holistic treatment focused on each individual patient’s needs.

Maria uses Chinese Herbs to supplement her treatments.  Customization of herbal formulas are used to treat the specific pattern and constitution of each patient’s condition.  Maria’s work and studies at Great Wave Herbal Pharmacy greatly added to her herbal education and skills.

A recent transplant to Minnesota, Maria enjoys exploring the beauty of the state on foot and in a canoe.  Maria and her fiance, a Minnesota native, relish in taking frequent trips to the boundary waters and lakes around the state.
