About Marianne Benforado

Marianne Benforado, L.Ac., Dipl.Om., has a passion for helping people feel better. Whether it is a recent injury or a chronic problem or a minor health issue, Marianne is here to help you experience more vitality in your health.

She uses a holistic approach to get to the root of the problem and creates an individual treatment plan including acupuncture, herbs, nutritional counseling and lifestyle changes to bring the body back into balance.

Marianne completed a rigorous four year masters degree program at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz CA that consists of over 3200 hours of study including more than 1000 clinical hours. As in China, where TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Western medicine are practiced in tandem, Western medicine is a major focus of the Five Branches Masters curriculum including classes in anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition and physical examination. She is licensed by the State of California to practice Chinese medicine. Additionally she is certified nationally by the NCAAOM in acupuncture and herbology.

Marianne's area of specialization is Orthopedics and Sports Injuries. She completed extra course work including focused clinical training to receive the Orthopedic certificate from Five Branches. She completed a year long board certified residency program with Frank He, a leading orthopedic and sports medicine acupuncture specialist in the Bay Area. He is the former chair of the acupuncture department at the university.

She has successfully treated patients with a variety of conditions such as sciatica, chronic knee pain (osteoarthritis), low back pain, sprained ankle, tendinitis and carpal tunnel as well as a wide variety of musculo-skeletal disorders.

In addition to orthopedics and pain management, Marianne's other areas of focus include:

spiritual and emotional issues – grief, insomnia, anxiety, stress reduction

Weight loss  - regular acupuncture treatment supports weight loss as well as digestive issues such as acid reflux, indigestion, and constipation

Marianne, a Wisconsin native, returned to acupuncture school after a successful career in marketing at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She is an avid recreational bicyclist, former marathoner and casual triathlete. She is inspired by the teachings of international humanitarian Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and has been a mediator for over 20 years. This and her Qi gong practice give her the sensitive awareness to be an intuitive practitioner.
