Welcome to Acupuncture & Massage College (formerly the Southeast Institute of Oriental Medicine). AMC is one of the oldest accredited schools of Oriental Medicine is the State of Florida. Curricula includes: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Tui-Na, Shiatsu, Chinese Herbology, Food & Nutrition, Pharmacology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Assessment, and Western Sciences. Financial aid is available to all who qualify. Upon graduation, students are prepared to sit for the National Board exams in Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, and Oriental Medicine.

Master of Oriental Medicine Degree Program

The four-year Master of Oriental Medicine Degree program can be completed in only 36 months. The program consists of 2815 hours or 156 credit hours. The curriculum has been developed over the past 20 years to provide students with the most comprehensive study of the Oriental philosophy of healthcare. Upon completion graduates are eligible to sit for the National Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Oriental Medicine exams.

In the first year, students are introduced to Tui-Na, (Chinese Massage) Qi Kung and Meditation and basic Yoga stretching. Studies also include: Chinese Medical Theory, Western Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Point Location, and Basic Needling Technique. During this phase of training, students are required to attend 300 hours of Clinical Observation.

The second year begins with the study of Chinese Herbs, learning over 365 individual herbs. Further studies in Western sciences include: Pathology, Bloodwork and Physical Examination and Western Orthopedic Techniques. Students then take courses in Advanced Acupuncture Theory and Treatment Plans. During this phase of clinical training, (300 hours) the Interns are working on teams under the supervision of their Clinical Supervisors.

The final third year is reserved to clarify and advance knowledge of Chinese Herbal Formulas, Internal Medicine, Acupuncture, Tui-Na, Chinese Orthopedics, and Chinese and Western Nutrition. Clinical Practice allows Interns to work independently with guidance from their Clinical Supervisors.

Admission Requirements and Financial Aid

Massage Therapy applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age and must have completed high school or received a GED.

Oriental Medicine applicants must have completed 60 semester credits from an accredited institute.

The Acupuncture & Massage College offers financial aid to all who qualify. Financial aid is available in the form of Pell Grants, Direct Loans and Outside Lenders. For further information please call the Admissions and Financial Aid offices at (305) 595-9500.

Accreditation and Licensure

The Acupuncture & Massage College is licensed by the Commission of Independent Education, Florida Department of Education. The Master of Oriental Medicine Degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The Massage Therapy program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges of Technology.

Founded in 1983, the Acupuncture & Massage Collegeis the oldest school of Acupuncture in the state of Florida.

    • We offer two distinct and different courses of study: a 8 1/2 month Massage Therapy program that specializes in Japanese Shiatsu and a 36 month Master of Oriental Medicine Degree.

Our Community Intern Clinic

One important feature of the AMC is the Student Intern Clinic, which opened to the public in 1983. The Clinic offers low cost quality health care to the community and provides a place for our Oriental Medicine and Massage Therapy Interns to do their Supervised Clinicals. All students can receive treatment at no charge at the Community Intern Clinic. Our Programs

Both our programs are structured on the innovative modular system of education where students focus on one course at a time. Oriental Medicine Program

Oriental Medicine in the State of Florida

Acupuncture Practitioners in Florida are very fortunate because this is one of the first states in the nation to recognize and regulate the Acupuncture profession. In 1986 the State Legislature defined an Acupuncturists as a "primary health care provider." This means that private insurance companies must cover and treat Acupuncturists performing primary health care services as they would any primary health care provider. In 1989, the State Acupuncture Board officially named Acupuncturists, " Acupuncture Physicians."

Massage Therapy Program

The Massage Therapy program is a comprehensive 720-hour, 81/2 month program leading to National Certification in Massage Therapy. The program includes a Shiatsu specialization and studies in Swedish and Medical Massage Techniques. Additional classes are offered in Aromatherapy and Western Sciences. Students also fulfill their Clinical Internship program component.

To complete the entire program, students must attend and pass three Biosciences classes: Muscuskeletal, Anatomy and Physiology and Pathology. The hands-on training in Massage consists of three classes in Massage Techniques: Shiatsu 1 & 2, Swedish Massage and Medical Massage. Courses in State Law and Practice Management are included in the program. Upon completion of the academic aspect of training, the student then enters into the Supervised Clinical Practice phase of training at the College’s busy in-house Community Clinic.

    • 720 hours completed in 8 1/2 months

Program Start Dates


  • The Oriental Medicine program has start dates in September, January, and April.
