Description

Established in 1990, the Florida College of Integrative Medicine began as a single-program acupuncture, herbology and Oriental medicine college. Today it is the largest and oldest accredited traditional Chinese medicine college in Florida. Formerly known as National College of Oriental Medicine, Florida College of Integrative Medicine is nationally accredited by ACAOM (Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) and was the first college of its type to be licensed by Florida's Commission for Independent Education as a college to award the Bachelor's Degree in Professional Health Studies and the Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine.

Master's Degree Program

Our college offers a four year Masters Degree Program (condensed into 36 months) that integrates the teachings of traditional Chinese medicine with the teachings of modern Western medicine. The purpose of this integration is to produce a knowledge base that is appropriate for the practice of traditional Chinese medicine in a society where Western medicine dominates. Without the basic understanding of modern Western medicine, the practitioner of Oriental medicine cannot communicate intelligently with other health care professionals, nor can the practitioner properly assess how Oriental medicine may interact with Western medicine.

The curriculum emphasizes Western biomedical sciences, technologies and clinical practices to support proper patient treatment and integration of the medicine within the overall health care delivery system. Our philosophy of education is based on the worldview that acknowledges the importance if maintaining harmony and balance. Observing, diagnosing and healing disharmonies within the patient is the essence of the physicians healing art and science. We are confident that your experience as a student will be rewarding. With us, you will lay the foundation for a successful medical career. The college is committed to preparing students for the future of integrative medicine.

Accreditation and Licensure

The College is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, which is the only accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The College holds licensure with the Florida Commission for Independent Education. This gives the College full authority to award the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine Degree and the Bachelor of Professional Health Studies Degree to graduates of the Oriental Medicine Degree Program. Both degrees are awarded simultaneously upon completion of the program.

Central Florida Location

The College's Central Florida location in Orlando places it in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country. Tourism remains the major industry of the region with the sub-tropical climate, beaches, and major attractions drawing millions of vacationers to the area each year. We are within twenty minutes driving time of Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and many other attractions. For those who enjoy the beach, it's possible to watch the sunrise on the east coast, then take a leisurely drive to the Gulf of Mexico to catch a spectacular sunset at the end of your day.

The campus is situated in Orlando Central Park, a prestigious business community in southwest Orlando. The modern building that forms the heart of the campus sits on four acres of landscaped property with over 500 feet of lakeshore on beautiful Lake Ellenor. Ancient live oak trees and sable palms enhance the large expanse of manicured lawn. The facilities include an on-campus ten-room clinic with a fully stocked herbal pharmacy, a new library, and a kitchen area and student break room.

Financial Aid

Federal financial aid in the form of graduate level student loans is available to qualifying students. The program is also approved for VA educational benefits.

China Internship

On a voluntary basis, senior students may take advantage of an internship overseas to various prestigious TCM Hospitals and Universities. The trip has always proven to be an exciting and rewarding experience for those who elect to participate in receiving an education abroad.
