Curriculum
Our highly specialized curriculum provides you with hands-on clinical training as well as in-depth class instruction from real world licensed practitioners.
Our Master’s degree program in Acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine trains practitioners to function as primary, independent healthcare providers. We enable our graduates to take individual state exams in New York, Illinois, and California, and national certification examinations. Our graduates become an integral part of the modern healthcare system working in hospitals, sports injury clinics, physical therapy clinics, and even their own private practices.
We also offer one of the most comprehensive Massage and Asian Bodywork curriculum's available. With a substantial specialization in Oriental body therapy, the program is designed for students launching a career into the field of body therapy, or for health practitioners who want to offer additional modalities to their patients.
One of the most important things about our massage program is its close tie in with our Oriental medicine program. Working alongside Oriental medicine students and professionals in our classes and clinic allows our students to develop a greater depth of knowledge and expertise. The massage and Oriental medicine programs may be completed concurrently, allowing students to obtain a Massage License and begin a Massage Therapy practice while still finishing the Oriental medicine degree. Qualified massage students may also transfer into the Oriental medicine program upon completion.
Clinical Training
One of the most unique parts of Pacific College is the hands-on clinical experience our students receive. During the first year of our Master's program, our students are prepared to become Associate Interns. As an Associate Intern, the student will work on medical teams with other assistants, interns, and licensed acupuncturists. In off-site internships, the team may expand to include medical students, doctors, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and counselors, depending on the facility. During the third phase of the program our students get the added responsibility of accepting their own patients.
The Clinical Internship program allows a student Intern to participate in at least 350 patient visits. Our Interns develop exquisite acupuncture techniques, evaluation and diagnosis skills, professional conduct, and confidence in practice. With an in-depth understanding of the practice of acupuncture, Oriental medicine, and biomedicine our graduates are well equipped to thrive in the field of Oriental medicine.
Applying
Candidates for the Master's programs are accepted year-round. Applicants must have satisfactorily completed an Associate's degree or its equivalent, which is defined as at least 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of substantial academic content.
Candidates for the Doctoral program should have satisfactory completion of a Master's degree or a Master's level program in Oriental medicine from an ACAOM-accredited institution or international equivalent. A grade point average of 3.0 or better in previous graduate level work is required. Due to the emerging nature of the D.A.O.M. degree program, ACAOM standards allow a special admissions policy for practitioners that have been actively engaged in the profession for at least five years.
For a more personal look at our college and its programs you can attend one of our year-round Open House Events where you can take part in exciting Acupuncture and Asian Bodywork Demonstrations. Please contact us for more information on our Open House events.
