About Efrem Korngold

Chinese Medicine Works offers caring and effective acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutritional counseling for a wide variety of complaints. Chinese Medicine Works is also a full service Chinese traditional medicine pharmacy that serves people who walk in off the street in search of herbal remedies. We are located in the San Francisco neighborhood of Noe Valley, on the corner of Noe and 25th Street.

Efrem Korngold and Harriet Beinfield, co-directors of Chinese Medicine Works, have pioneered the practice of Chinese medicine in America for more than 30 years, as authors, educators, and practitioners. They are the co-authors of the best-selling book, Between Heaven and Earth: A Guide to Chinese Medicine (Ballantine 1991). Efrem Korngold and Harriet Beinfield have also written about Chinese Medicine and Cancer Care.

Having begun their studies in England in 1972, Korngold then studied at the Kunming Traditional Medicine Research Institute and the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Efrem Korngold was a member of the founding faculty of the San Francisco college of Acupuncture and an instructor in the Holistic Health Studies program at San Francisco State University. Together they have lectured widely at Andrew Weil’s Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona, at UCSF Medical Center, at Beth Israel Hospital in New York, as well as in Canada, Cuba, and Europe. They are also on the faculty of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Efrem Korngold was also a founding member of several professional organizations including the Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAOM), the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alliance (AOMA), the California Society of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CSOMA), and the Holistic Pediatric Association (HPA) of which he is an advisory board member. He is a member of the advisory board of Natural Health Magazine.

Efrem Korngold and Harriet Beinfield are conscientiously dedicated to tailoring treatment to the needs of each patient, and have had years of experience in treating many symptoms and problems. They welcome new patients.
