Educational Excellence

The Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine is committed to maintaining the highest standards of educational excellence. The School's priority is educating highly qualified acupuncturists, capable of working in clinics, hospitals and private practices. Reasonable class sizes ensure individual attention, in which give and take between students and instructors is encouraged and a supportive learning experience fostered.

The faculty is made up of instructors and practitioners with the highest qualifications and experience. The school's faculty members come from diverse backgrounds in the field of acupuncture and are committed to treating students with professionalism and compassion.

Mission and Educational Objectives

Our Mission:

The purpose of the Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine is to offer professional training, education and services in acupuncture, Oriental Medicine, and traditional healing modalities that enhance the health and well being of the greater community.

Educational Objectives:

Graduates of the Eastern School will be able to:
  • Deliver competent, compassionate care to patients
  • Gain licensure in the State of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and certification from the NCCAOM and CCAOM (Clean Needle Technique Course)
  • Understand relevant legal and professional issues that impact their future profession
  • Refer patients to appropriate health care providers when indicated
  • Establish successful private practices
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of: Yin/Yang; the Five Elements; the zang-fu; qi, blood and fluids; the Eight Principles; the meridian system (including regular meridians, extraordinary vessels and internal pathways); the Four Exams; indications and contra-indications for the use of needling, moxabustion and cupping; professional ethics; biomedical terminology and pathology; the laws governing the practice of acupuncture in the State of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and other pertinent public policies.

Students will be able to apply the above knowledge as well as treatment strategies based on various traditions with specific focus on TCM and Japanese style.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Eastern School’s Diploma in Acupuncture program is 2205.5 hours in length and takes three years to complete. Graduates of the program receive a Diploma in Acupuncture.

The program is designed to meet the needs of working adults. Classes meet one afternoon and evening per week and most weekends throughout the school year. The curriculum of the Eastern School is designed to reinforce theoretical concepts with practical experience to assist the adult learner in mastering a rigorous educational program. The curriculum at the Eastern School is based on exposing students, not only to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), but other styles of acupuncture including: Five Element, Japanese (Kiiko Style) and French Meridian.

FACILITIES

MAIN OFFICE:
The main office for the Eastern School of Acupuncture is located at 427 Bloomfield Ave., Suite 301 in Montclair, NJ. Students and potential students are encouraged to visit the main office when they have questions concerning admission to the school, financial aid, student accounts, academics or if they need to speak with the Dean of Studies or School Director.

LIBRARY FACILITIES:
Located within the main office complex, the library at the Eastern School is a valuable resource for students, faculty, and the public. The library maintains books on Oriental medicine, Western medicine, other healing modalities, professional journals and videos. A computer with Internet access and a printer is available for student use.

BOOKSTORE:
Located within the main office complex, the school’s bookstore sells student textbooks, books written by our internationally known faculty members, acupuncture supplies, Chinese herbs and clothing.

CLASSROOMS:
All classrooms are located on the 3rd floor of 427 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, NJ. Each classroom is used for both didactic and clinical classes and is equipped to handle all the teachers’ instructional needs.

STUDENT LOUNGE:
A modest student lounge is located on the 3rd floor to students for small group study sessions and relaxation.

STUDENT CLINIC:
The Eastern School provides low-cost acupuncture treatments at our faculty supervised student clinic. The clinic gives students the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of patients and health concerns. The students are supervised by licensed clinical faculty as they diagnose and treat patients to become more proficient in patient care. Third year students are required to participate in the clinic on a regular basis as part of their graduation requirements. Patients are seen by appointment with a physician’s referral (treatment diagnosis).
