About New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Welcome to New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Located in Long Island with an auxiliary center in Manhattan, the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NYCTCM) is New York's premier institution of authentic Chinese Medicine. Established in 1996 by Dr. Chi Chow, NYCTCM teaches Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) much as it is taught in China, while helping students relate this approach to the evolving practice of Western Medicine in the U.S.
Programs
NYCTCM currently offers a three-year Bachelor of Professional Studies/Master of Science in Health Science/Acupuncture Program, which prepares students for licensure and professional practice of Acupuncture, and a four-year Bachelor of Professional Studies/Master of Science in Health Science/Oriental Medicine Program, which prepares students for licensure and professional practice of both Acupuncture and Chinese herbology.
NYCTCM is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and our programs have been shown to thoroughly prepare our students for the NCCAOM national certification examination in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is similar to the programs offered in China for the training of Oriental Medicine Professionals. NYCTCM sequences its TCM courses so that each course builds upon the preceding one until a grand synthesis is reached with the Clinical Acupuncture Practice and Clinical Herbal Practice courses.
At the same time, students are introduced to relevant concepts of Western bioscience, which are integrated with the TCM approach. In this way, NYCTCM acupuncture school and Oriental Medicine School students receive a thorough grounding in the ancient Chinese system and are able to relate it to the environment of modern Western healthcare.
NYCTCM Clinic
NYCTCM's Teaching Clinic offers Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine to the community while providing our advanced students with clinical internships. The clinical aspect of the program consists of four phases: Observation, Assistantship, Junior Internship and Senior Internship. As students progress in their classroom studies of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs, they apply that theoretical knowledge with increasing levels of responsibility in the Teaching Clinic.
NYCTCM Admissions
NYCTCM accepts new and transfer students at the beginning of each trimester, in January, April and September. Prospective students must have at least 60 college credits before applying for NYCTCM admission.
Preadmission Assistance Program
Beginning Fall term 2008, NYCTCM will launch a special program designed to encourage enrollment by students interested in studying TCM and who have at least 51 college credits but who are unable to pass the school’s English language competency requirement.
Such students will be admitted to the school as non-matriculated students and will study ESL and TOEFL-preparation courses offered on-site while at the same time being able to take bioscience prerequisite courses and various courses from the Acupuncture or OM Program curriculum such as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Foundations of Tui Na, Medical Terminology, and History and Philosophy of Chinese Medicine.
