About East West College of Natural Medicine
East West College of Natural Medicine's vision is to provide an educational environment for people with similar high-minded goals to facilitate a paradigm shift in healthcare. Our students participate in this vision by receiving a superior academic and clinical education in acupuncture, Oriental medicine, integrative biomedical subjects, energy-based medicine, and adjunctive natural therapies. Our graduates actualize this vision by offering their patients safe and effective means for the prevention and treatment of disease, and the optimization of health; thereby, improving the overall quality of healthcare in America.
Our Purpose
The Purpose of this College is to provide a Master's level education primarily in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with adjunctive training in other CAM therapies and Integrative Western Medical Sciences. This education is specifically designed to prepare our students to meet the certification and licensure requirements of the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the Florida State Board of Acupuncture, respectively. It also prepares our students to enter the field of Chinese Medicine with competency as licensed primary health care providers. In addition, the Purpose of this institution is to support the professional development of our Graduates and other professionals by offering advanced studies at the post graduate level.
The Program
The Oriental Medicine Program is designed to provide the student with an in-depth understanding of Oriental Medicine. The clinical setting, under the supervision of Florida Licensed Acupuncture Physicians, provides a hands-on intensive training in the diagnosis, prescription and treatment of patients utilizing the oriental medical model. The curriculum is designed to educate and train the individual in the history, theory and clinical aspects of Oriental Medicine. The objective is for the graduate to be a competent qualified independent practitioner of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The curriculum meets the educational requirements of the Florida Board of Acupuncture and NCCAOM licensing exams.
Educational Objectives
- Graduates will be competent to diagnose, treat and prevent various internal, external, pediatric, gynecological, sensory, and orthopedic diseases according to the principles and techniques of Oriental Medicine.
- Graduates will be knowledgeable about how to access informational resources pertaining to health care in general and Oriental medicine in particular.
- Graduates will be able to communicate in a professional manner with other health care providers for the purposes of referral and consultation.
- Graduates will know how to act ethically and professionally with patients in an Oriental medical practice.
- Graduates will know how to establish and manage an oriental medical practice.
- Post Graduates and other professionals, who so choose, will be trained in advanced AOM studies provided through special courses and seminars.
Accreditation Status
The professional master's level diploma program in oriental medicine of the East West College of Natural Medicine is accredited with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). ACAOM is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioners.
