About Institute of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture Inc.
A "Life Transforming" Post- Graduate Program for Acupuncturists
The Institute of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture Inc. was founded in 2000 in order to fully train licensed acupuncturists, physicians, and students of Oriental Medicine in this ancient and profound body-mind-spirit tradition.
The Institute faithfully follows the lineage and teachings brought to the West by its late Master, Professor J.R.Worsley.
Our programs range from half hour presentations to weekend Beginning thr Journey™ Seminars to our flagship program, the one year, part-time Classical Five-Element Acupuncture Program. In this program, students come from across the country and Canada to learn to become instruments of healing, able to reach the depth of patients' suffering at the level where disease originates.
The Programs, called “life-transforming” by its graduates, are under the direction of Professor Neil R. Gumenick, M.Ac. (UK), L.Ac., Dipl. Ac., and Founder of the Institute. Neil has been in practice since 1981 and holds three degrees and an advanced teaching credential from the College of Traditional Acupuncture (UK) awarded by Professor J.R. Worsley.
The Theory of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture
For thousands of years, the Chinese have recognized that the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water exist in everyone, everything, and are essential for life. Classical Five-Element Acupuncture asserts that every human being is born with, or develops early in life, an imbalance in the natural functioning of these elements. This imbalance becomes the root cause of illness of the body, mind, and spirit.
Classical Five-Element Acupuncture is set apart from other systems of acupuncture by its fundamental premise of diagnosing and treating a patient’s Causative Factor: his/her root imbalance. The Causative Factor is assessed by way of information provided by the body itself. Each of the elements has a corresponding color, sound, emotion, and odor which can be perceived when a particular element is out of balance. While it is relatively easy to memorize these associations, developing the skills to truly see, hear, feel, and smell these imbalances requires focused study, practice, and skilled guidance. Accurate diagnosis and treatment of the Causative Factor is the key to Classical Five-Element Acupuncture.
In addition, this elegant system recognizes that the health of each individual’s body, mind, and spirit must be taken into account to fully understand and treat the cause of disease. Regardless of the presence of physical symptoms, the vast majority of patients are imbalanced at the level of the spirit. With this medicine, we have the means to treat the spirit directly, according to the unique needs of each patient, healing naturally from the inside out.
Become the Practitioner you always wanted to be. If you truly desire to treat the whole person, rather than parts, we offer these transforming opportunities to learn.
