About South Baylo University School of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine

South Baylo University (SBU) is a progressive student-centered, single purpose educational institution committed to providing high quality graduate programs in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Its mission is to expand professional, clinical and scientific knowledge among students, faculty, staff, and the general public through effective teaching, scholarly activity and quality patient care.

The University is dedicated to training primary health care providers in complementary and alternative medical (CAM) methodologies and techniques and has initiated the most innovative training program to achieve this goal. The University provides an integrative educational approach for primary health care providers by combining both the complementary medical education in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with traditional medical education. Through this innovative educational approach, SBU has become the leader in providing holistic health care education by integrating educational programs in CAM with traditional medical education.

Educational Programs

South Baylo University(SBU) stimulates students and faculty to excel academically in a nurturing and supportive environment and offers courses in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) leading to the Master of Science degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This program prepares students for professional life as licensed, primary health care providers in AOM. The Doctorate of Oriental Medicine program at South Baylo University is offered in three (3) languages (English, Chinese and Korean). A non-degree certificate program in Acupressure - Tuina Massage is also available.

Both day and evening classes are offered for scheduling flexibility. Financial assistance is available to all who qualify.

Mission

South Baylo University is a single purpose institution dedicated to advancing Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (AOM) through promoting high quality learning, the discovery of new knowledge and excellence in the clinical application of AOM education for the benefit of diverse communities including our students the AOM profession, patients and the public. We strive to admit students of exceptional character and academic accomplishment for education and training to become competent and caring primary health care practitioners of AOM, scientists and teachers.

Approval and Accreditation

South Baylo University is approved by the California Bureau for Private Post-secondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) to operate and to provide educational programs leading to the award of the Bachelor of Science degree in Holistic Science and the Master of Science degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The University is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) which is the sole accreditation agency in the United States for the Master's degree in Oriental Medicine. ACAOM is located in the Maryland Trade Center, at 7501 Greenway Center Drive, Suite 820, Greenbelt, MD 20770, Tel: (301) 313-0855; Fax: (301) 313-0912.

In April 2002, an Eligibility Review Panel of the Western Association of School and College (WASC) granted Eligibility to South Baylo University which is now eligible for a Candidacy visit. A determination of Eligibility is not an official status with the WASC Commission but only a preliminary review to enable the University to proceed with the data collection, institutional reflection and evaluation required for Candidacy and Accreditation reviews.

The University is approved by the California Acupuncture Board to offer continuing education courses. As a private non-profit and public benefit corporation, gifts and donations to the University are tax deductible
