About Jennifer Coleman

Thank you for viewing my profile. My interest in acupuncture started while I was in nursing school and I had to do a project on one of the body's systems. I choose the nervous system and decided to show how the acupuncture meridians were associated with the various neural pathways in the body, thus explaining "how acupuncture worked." I was intrigued and surprised to find a system of medicine that was as specific and exact as the Western medicine that I was currently studying but couldn't be explained in the same terms.

I decided to actually try acupuncture a few years later when I was feeling overwhelmed by the stress in my life. It was the one thing that I did that made me feel at home in my body. It wasn't long before I wanted to know everything about this type of medicine. In fact, my practitioner had a peace and serenity that I longed for. I got glimpses of it during and after treatment, but I wanted it all of the time. Thus began my study of acupuncture and Eastern philosophy.

As I worked as a nurse in some of the most acute critical care units in Maryland, I was faced with a bioethical dilemma nearly every day. Most of my patients suffered from conditions that were preventable and I found myself more and more convinced that I wanted to be on the other end of the healing spectrum. A lot of what I had to do as a nurse seemed to go against the natural grain and I yearned to practice a form of medicine that actually respected and upheld the laws of nature. Fortunately for me, Maryland is a small state and I did not have to travel far to find the first accredited Master's program in acupuncture in the country.

My training in Five Element acupuncture allows me to practice the kind of medicine that is congruent with my personal and spiritual philosophies. This classical tradition of medicine follows the ebb and flow of the Earth's energy as it expresses itself in the seasons, in nature and in us. This practice of perturbing the status quo and treating symptoms at their root truly serves the patient on a constitutional level and provides me with an extremely satisfying practice.

I again thank you for viewing my profile and invite you to experience this incredible form of healing.
