About Barbara Weiss

My focus, as an acupuncturist, is to treat the body, mind and spirit to restore optimal health and well being. A very important part of my practice, in addition to addressing your chief complaint, is to pay close attention to the signs of underlying conditions that have created disease or have prevented recovery.

Acupuncture helps to cultivate and guide qi (pronounced “chee”), the spark of life or vital force. By releasing areas of energetic constriction and constrained tissue the body can begin to heal itself. Blood flows more freely, lymph fluid begins to drain and an irritated nervous system becomes calmer. As the energetic process of your body begins to flow with less constriction a sense of emotional fluidity is engendered. Acupuncture helps a person to resume a more dynamic approach to the stresses of everyday life enabling the body and mind to flourish and maintain health.

I am trained in a variety of acupuncture styles. These include a Japanese style of acupuncture in the tradition of Kiiko Matsumoto, which incorporates western perspectives into oriental medicinal practices. Five Element acupuncture in the tradition of Lorie Dechar to facilitate psychological and spiritual healing and Acupuncture Physical Medicine developed by Dr. Mark Seem, which utilizes myofascial trigger point release. In addition to these approaches I employ various techniques including electrical stimulation, moxibustion and gua sha.

I am certified in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, a safe, effective alternative to plastic surgery, laser treatment, dermabrasion, chemical peels, collagen and botox. It helps the face look younger, healthier and more radiant by balancing the flow of qi, blood and fluids.

I am a New York State licensed and nationally board-certified acupuncturist and have been involved with alternative health modalities for over 20 years. I received my M.S. in acupuncture from Tri-State School of Acupuncture and also hold an M.F.A. from New York University. Before becoming an acupuncturist, in addition to being a painter, I enjoyed a career in film and television as a designer and director.

I maintain a private practice in Mamaroneck, as well as Croton-On-Hudson. You can call for an appointment or free consultation at either location at 914-450-0955. I look forward to helping you on your path to a healthy life.
