About Sarah Tung
Dr. Sarah Tung is a naturopathic doctor and third-generation acupuncturist. Her healing philosophy combines her knowledge of natural therapies with modern medical research and centers on whole-person health care, identifying the root cause of illness and achieving optimal health for her patients. Dr. Tung works with both acute and chronic conditions, and she enjoys seeing patients of all ages. Her interests include general and family medicine, women’s healthcare (including fertility, menopause and menstrual issues), chronic pain, and general wellness (fatigue, stress, insomnia).
“I truly believe in the principles of naturopathic medicine and feel they can be applied to much more than healthcare – it’s such a great way to approach life. I also loved the idea that you could practice modern, science-based medicine and combine it with traditional or alternative medicines that have been in practice for thousands of years. I’m a third generation acupuncturist and I grew up with traditional Chinese medicine. I knew these medicines worked and was thrilled to discover a medical field that combined the best of both worlds.”
Dr. Tung holds a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and a Master's in Acupuncture with a Certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine from Bastyr University, an institution that is internationally recognized as a pioneer in natural health education, research and clinical care. She completed a Naturopathic Medical Residency at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Seattle, WA and studied advanced acupuncture and herbal medicine at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Chengdu, China. She also completed the National Detoxification Association training program at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY which specializes in treating addiction disorders with acupuncture. Dr. Tung received her B.S. in biology from the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Tung is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and Maryland Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
