About Lisa Mackay

My name is Lisa M. Mackay and I am a state licensed Acupuncturist in Massachusetts. I have a Master's Degree in Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture from the New England School of Acupuncture. I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from UMass Boston. I began practicing acupuncture in 2004 at my Wakefield, MA office. I recently moved my practice to Everett, MA in 2007.

What is Acupuncture?
It is a comprehensive medical system over 3000 years old, originating in China. It uses very fine needles specifically placed along energy pathways that run through our bodies. These needles regulate our body's natural energy Qi (chee). Health is seen as our Qi being harmonious and balanced, if the flow is disrupted, illness occurs.

The needles:
Are very thin in width, it can be compared to a strand of human hair. They are solid and fine. The needles are sterile, single use and disposable. When needled you may experience a range of sensations: mosquito like pinch, dull achy feeling, heat, itching or a pulsating feeling. The majority of people find the treatment comfortable and relaxing.

What to expect:
Your first visit will consist of a comprehensive health interview and an examination to evaluate the kind of imbalances that create your symptoms. This session will include: health history questions, pulse analysis, tongue inspection, abdomen palpitation, which are all used to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan. Together we will create a plan specific to you. All treatments there after will consist of a follow-up interview and full treatment of the front and back of the body.

Services that I offer:
Chinese and Japanese acupuncture. These techniques stem from the same root and each have evolved into distinct forms of treatment, but can be used together.

Acupuncture can safely and effectively treat these conditions and many more:
Allergies, Arthritis, Asthma, Auto-Immune Disorders, Blood Pressure, Digestive Disorders, Fibromyalgia, Headaches and Migraines, Stress and Anxiety, All types of acute and chronic pain (back, neck, knees), Women's health (PMS, Infertility, Menstrual and Menopausal Disorders).
