About Balance Restored Center for Integrative Medicine
Susan Fox, M.S., L.Ac., Dipl.Ac., Dipl. C.H.
Susan Fox, founder of Balance Restored, received her M.S. degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine at Meiji College of Oriental Medicine in Berkeley, California. She is licensed in California and nationally as an acupuncturist and herbalist. Susan has led seminars on Traditional Oriental Medicine’s approach to diagnosis and treatment of a variety of health issues, including stress reduction, women’s health (infertility, menopausal symptoms and other gynecological conditions) and treatment of musculo-skeletal pain due to injury or overuse.
Susan believes that is the patients’ right to have their health issues addressed in a cooperative and complementary manner. Toward that end, she works with M.D.’s of many specialties (fertility, neurology, orthopedic surgeons, nutritional medicine, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists), as well as chiropractors, physical therapists, and nutritionists, in addition to her colleagues at Balance Restored.
Susan is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the American Association of Oriental Medicine, and the California State Oriental Medical Association where she served on the Board of Directors. Susan is a Friend of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society Team in Training, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, a member of Resolve, a community-based resource for families seeking support with fertility, as well as other socially conscious organizations, including rainforest and indigenous culture preservation.
Karen A. Reynolds, L.Ac., RN.
Karen Reynolds started her biomedical career obtaining a bachelors degree in nursing in Ohio and going into critical care within six months of graduation.
She further specialized in cardiac intensive care, aka "open heart", nursing which requires training and skills in advanced cardiac life support, intra aortic balloon pump training as well as modified hemodialysis training. This specialty of nursing demands split second decision making with regard to regulation of intravenous medications, administration of blood and fluids as well as emotional support for critically ill patients and their families.
After 12 years in western medicine, Ms. Reynolds developed several illnesses, which responded poorly to conventional medical treatment, but healed following treatment with Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and the study of Martial Arts. She then decided to pursue the study of Oriental Medicine.
Ms. Reynolds graduated from Meiji College of Oriental Medicine and is licensed both nationally and in the state of California.
After obtaining her license, she continued in advanced practice studies with venerated master practitioners including Michael Turk, L.Ac. of Chico, CA and Dr. Miki Shima, OMD of Corte Madera, CA.
Ms. Reynolds is an avid reader and researcher and states, "Learning is a life long pursuit both with respect to enriching our lives but also in providing the best patient care. The realm of possibilities is endless, infinite and exciting. The human body and the spirit residing in it is ever wise and should not be underestimated."
Currently she specializes in treatment infertility for both men and women and in the treatment of chronic pain. Both specialties mirror invaluable aspects of life: the creation of life and living it with joy. She is also a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
Professionally, Ms. Reynolds is interested in the promotion of mainstream conventional and complimentary medicines working in partnership for the benefit of the patient.
Anne Cabrinha, M.S., L.Ac., Dipl.N.B.A.O.
Anne has over 10 years experience in complementary and alternative medicine. She began her studies in anthropology at UCLA where she fell in love with the philosophy of Chinese medicine. She received her master’s degree from Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California, and later served as a clinical supervisor for the school’s externship at Los Angeles Free Clinic. Anne has advanced training in acupuncture orthopedics from Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills where she collaborated with many western doctors including neurologists, rheumatologists, radiologists and chiropractors.
In addition to her clinical experience, Anne has been involved with complementary and alternative medicine research at both Stanford University and UCLA.
Anne’s particular interest in women’s health led her to Jane Lyttleton, author of Treatment of Infertility with Chinese Medicine, in Sydney, Australia, where she studied the integration of assisted reproductive technology with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Anne has successfully treated many gynecological disorders and is especially interested in polycystic ovarian syndrome.
At the heart of her practice, Anne loves to see her patients empowered to move through life’s challenges and encourages them to seek a supportive team of health practitioners. She is equally passionate about introducing Chinese medicine to the western medical community and has been invited to speak at Harbor-UCLA Women’s Health Care Center and UCLA Department of Psychoneuroimmunology.
Anne is a member of the American Association of Oriental Medicine and the California State Oriental Medical Association. |
