About Janet Borges
Janet Borges MSTCM, Dipl.Ac., Dipl.C.H., L.Ac., is a Licensed Acupuncturist in both Virginia and California and a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Chinese Herbalist. She has earned a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco, CA., which was the first US school to offer accredited 4 year programs in this field.
Her comprehensive training in Oriental Medicine included TCM theory and diagnostics as well as background theory in Western medicine, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition, as well as other skills necessary to work as a complementary medicine professional. In addition she studied Chinese herbal medicine throughout the program. Four years of hands-on clinical training in the busy student clinic, as well as off campus internships were an integral part of her training.
A 25-year self-study of Chinese medicine and philosophy, as well as her reliance on Oriental Medicine since 1980 as her primary healthcare choice, motivated her to return to school after other career endeavors in order to help others find the benefit of this medicine. Prior to her studies in TCM she studied psychology, homeopathy and Buddhism as well as artistic pursuits such as music and theater. After her graduation from ACTCM she further advanced her study of herbal medicine while employed as a consultant for Mayway Corporation, which is one of the most respected Chinese herbal companies in the U.S. She continues to work with Mayway as a consultant and trade show representative in addition to her private practice.
Janet has a great capacity to be empathetic and compassionate, and brings much humor to her practice. Her clinical focus is on psychological and emotional challenges such as depression, anxiety and insomnia, as well as cardiovascular and digestive issues, womens health, cancer support, and lifestyle change. Her practice is complementary to conventional medicine treatment, and she is always happy to work with other medical providers. One of her greatest dreams is to promote greater understanding and integration of Oriental Medicine in the US.
Janet is currently accepting new patients.
