About Nicky Corbett

Nicky Corbett graduated from YoSan University in Santa Monica, California. This well respected, non profit school is run by the Ni family, a 74th generation lineage of Taoist Masters and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) healers. As well as studying with the Ni brothers at YoSan, Nicky also worked with them for many years in their private practice.

After two years in a Pre-Med curriculum, Nicky grew frustrated with some aspects of Western Medicine; specifically, the lack of interest in anything outside a strictly scientific model, and the inability to see the body as a whole system, where disease affects mind, body and spirit. She decided to pursue complementary medicine instead of applying to USC Medical School, and chose Yo San University because of its diverse and challenging curriculum.

Nicky graduated YoSan’s four-year Masters program in three years, with highest honors, and also completed an extra year of clinical internship, seeing patients at the school’s low-cost community clinic. Additionally, through the school’s externship program, she worked at Being Alive Clinic in West Hollywood, treating people with HIV and AIDS.

Nicky studied with Reiki Master Denise Neumark-Reimer and after completing accreditation for Reiki levels I and II, she went on to become a Reiki Master. Reiki is a form of hands-on energy work that enhances the body’s ability to repair and rejuvenate. It is a wonderful adjunct to TCM.

Nicky practices Iyengar style, Hatha Yoga and often teaches patients simple poses to help their conditions. Yoga keeps the body limber, the mind calm, and the immune system strong.

Nicky has experience treating a wide range of problems with TCM, ranging from simple sprains and strains, to more complicated immune support therapy. A license in TCM includes the practice of acupuncture, herbology, Tuina (a form of therapeutic massage) and nutrition. Diet and lifestyle changes are recommended to enhance the overall effect of the treatments.

Nicky’s philosophy is that true change comes from within, and that every person must go at their own pace. People come to the “ready” point at different times and in different ways. The practitioner’s job is not to push or judge, but rather to guide and encourage patients to make healthier choices. Some patients get a taste of TCM’s positive effects and race for the finish line, while others move more slowly, cautiously sipping from the healing cup. Either way, benefits are received and awareness is activated. This is where true healing begins.
