About Maura Twomey

Maura Twomey, a native of Ireland, holds a Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine (MAOM) from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA). She is also a 1991 MBA graduate of Simmons School of Management in Boston. Maura spent two months in an advanced internship at the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Hangzhou, China. Maura is passionately interested in the intersection between Eastern and Western Medicine and specifically how that affects women health, in the areas of fertility and cycle regularity and menopause.

Maura is licensed to practice Acupuncture by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, Committee on Acupuncture. She holds diplomas in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She is also a Certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist. Maura has interned in several clinics in the greater Boston area, including Center for Women at Mount Auburn Hospital, Pathways to Complimentary Therapies, the AIDS Care Project, Dimmock Community Health Center, and Victory Programs at the Shattuck Hospital Detoxification Center.

Maura has worked part-time at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on a clinical research study investigating the beneficial effects of Tai Chi on Chronic Heart Failure. She was also an acupuncturist on an NIH (National Institutes of Health) funded clinical trial on Acupuncture and Irritable Bowel Syndrome conducted by Harvard Medical School, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Maura serves on the Board of Directors of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Society of Massachusetts (AOMSM).
